Is Rocking Chairs the right class for me?

If you can sit on a chair for up to 45 minutes, and you can’t exercise on a floor mat, this class is for you. You might have tried to join fitness classes in the past. Perhaps the fitness room was upstairs with no lift. Getting down to a mat, kneeling or riding a bike was painful or you were unsure of your balance. The class pace was too fast, or the level simply felt too high for you. Your confidence nose-dived and you stopped exercising altogether.

Chair-based exercise overcomes the barriers to exercise faced by individuals with arthritis, recovering from an injury, with mobility limitations, with chronic pain, lacking in motivation, energy or anxious about ramping up to fitness. Ariana enjoys treating and teaching individuals who are accountable for their own health, regardless of their age, gender, condition or ability. As long as there is a will, there is fun along the way.

Frequently asked questions

Is there music during the class?

Absolutely. Music makes the class fun. Playlists are varied and renewed every 6 weeks or so. There is something for everyone, and you probably wouldn’t hear that mix of rock and pop through the ages in a gym environment.

What is the difference between Chair Fitness and Chair Yoga?

Ariana trained with Allactive endorsed by Active IQ, Skills for Care and CIMSPA. The course comprises of light cardio, strength, balance and stretch physical activity. Ariana puts her own mark on the sessions from an osteopath perspective, and takes inspiration from yoga and Pilates. A lot of participants call the class “Chair Yoga” but it is fair to say that there is something for everyone.

Can you tell me a bit more about the instructor?

Ariana brings a unique blend of clinical expertise and teaching experience to Rocking Chairs, ensuring that every class is safe, effective, and empowering. As a former Clinic Director of a Wellness Centre, she recognized that many traditional group fitness classes were unsuitable for her patients—and for herself. Determined to bridge this gap, she developed a ramping-up-to-fitness approach, guiding individuals through graded exercises tailored to their needs. Her method helps participants build strength and mobility at a comfortable pace, whether in treatment sessions or one-to-one fitness coaching.

With a Master’s Degree in Medical Sciences from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine and dual Diplomas in Naturopathy and Osteopathy, Ariana combines medical knowledge with a passion for functional movement. She also holds a PGCE from The London Institute of Education and has experience teaching in both schools and corporate settings. Her post-graduate specialization in Functional Medicine and expertise in gait analysis further enhance her ability to create personalized fitness solutions.

Ariana understands that getting back into fitness—especially after injury, illness, or a long break—can feel daunting. That’s why Rocking Chairs is designed to be welcoming, supportive, and accessible. In a time when social connections and physical activity have become more important than ever, her mission is to help people regain confidence, mobility, and strength in a friendly, encouraging environment.
